Cannabidiol a.k.a CBD is a cannabis compound that has magnificent medical benefits, but does not make people feel “stoned” and can actually counteract the “high” of THC. CBD is found naturally in the Hemp plant. CBD allows relief without the feeling of side effects or impairment. CBD has been known to have great medicinal benefits for ailments, both mentally and physically.
The endocannabinoid system is responsible for regulating balance in our body’s immune response, appetite, metabolism, memory, and more. In spite of the integral role this system takes on, until recently it remained an unknown part of the human body’s functions.
Named for the plant that inspired its discovery, the endocannabinoid system’s importance is only just becoming understood by the medical community. It is through this system that the naturally occurring cannabinoids from medical cannabis interact with our bodies and trigger their beneficial effects. With the potential to greatly affect the way our body’s work, it is essential that we recognize how to maintain a healthy endocannabinoid system.
Scientists are still learning more about the role that the endocannabinoid system plays in our health and more research still needs to be done. They have established that the system, when working properly, helps regulate processes like sleep, appetite, digestion, mood, motor control, immune function, reproduction and fertility, pleasure and reward, memory, temperature regulation, and pain. In cases where the endocannabinoid system is disrupted and gets out of whack because the body fails to produce enough endocannabinoids, disease and disorders can develop. In these cases, supplementing with plant cannabinoids may be beneficial.
